New Vero 1st XI Captain - Ejaaz Alavi
Date of Event : Mon Jun 4, 2018 10:04AM

Dear Members and Supporters,

I am very pleased to inform you that Ejaz ALavi has been appointed as our 1st XI captain.  The playing group were informed last night by the Coach that Dicko is handing over the captaincy to Ejaz.  The handover is timed perfectly from a Club perspective as we continue to grow and develop following recent years of success on and off field.

After much thought, meetings & sleepless nights Dicko decided the time was right. Even more so, Dicko believes it is a perfect time for Ejaz to take the reins & will bring a new view, great energy and a young, yet experienced head which is in line with the times & game.  Dicko makes it very clear that he is far from finished as a player and believes this may give him his best chance to perform at the highest level with a little less pressure and responsibility.

After due consideration and consultation with Dicko , the Cricket Committee accepted his decision and appointed Ejaz Alavi as the new 1st XI captain. On behalf of all members of the club I would like to thank Dicko for his extraordinary leadership, personal achievements, and commitment to the Club as Captain for  8 seasons in total.

Ejaz is excited about taking on the challenge as 1st XI captain and can’t wait for the preseason & season proper to begin. Although only 22, Ejaz’s cricket resume belies his age. He has already taken the reins during games on numerous occasions and at just 20 years & 103 days of age, he became Fitzroy Doncaster’s youngest ever 1st XI captain, when Dicko was out injured.

Ejaz debuted at the ripe old age of 15 and has now played an extraordinary 126 games in the 1st XI while taking 169 wickets in this time. He has been vice-captain of the 1st XI for the last few years, played in our back to back 1st XI premierships, captained Victoria’s U19 Team as well as representing Victoria in the Futures & 2nd XI sides.

We are thrilled with Ejaz’s appointment. He is a very unassuming person, shows concern & care & has a great heart and feel for people. He has many special tendencies of which not the least is his competitive & combative nature. He has first-class composure and displays humility & respect at all times.

Congratulations from all at FDCC and we wish you every success Ejaz.

Go Lions
